The song was gracefully recorded by The Carpenters before I was even born, and reached number 1 in the US Charts. Part of the lyrics of this timeless song includes…
And when the evening comes, we smile
So much of life aheadz
We’ll find a place where there’s room to grow
(And yes, we’ve just begun)
Sharing horizons that are new to us
Watchin’ the signs along the way
Talkin’ it over, just the two of us
Workin’ together day to day Together Together
Bethel Chapel speeds into 2023 having existed for 92 years. It was planted in Verwood in 1931 and stemmed from locals in Verwood having an encounter with the Holy Spirit.
For many people who reach their latter years, much of their narrative is about what went on in the past. The years that have come and gone, the ‘good ole days’. The past can produce precious memories that are of great value. Yet, I find it sad when people live out their lives in memory instead of imagination.
For us here in Verwood, that belong to this fellowship, we are excited about the future and all that God has planned for the church. We really have ‘only just begun’. The church will be going through a radical and exciting change in almost all areas. It’s time for a new generation to come to know Jesus as Lord and Saviour and to impact the world around them. With a world at its worst, we need a church at its best. In line with the Carpenters, ‘We’ll find a place where there’s room to grow’.
The message of the gospel remains the same, but the delivery, the culture, the building, the narrative – is heading for change. It’s interesting where dust settles – on things that are still (stationary). For us at Bethel Chapel (it’s current name), come and join this ship as it leaves the comfort of the harbour, and ventures out into the depths of humanity.
As the journey of this church takes its course, continue to check in to the website and social media. We meet Sunday’s at 10.30am, and mid-week, 7.30pm.
